CSIR-UGC NET is a national-level exam conducted twice a year in the months of June and December by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Candidates can apply for the CSIR-UGC NET exam online, and the application process usually begins a few months before the exam. The eligibility criteria for the exam include age limit, educational qualification, and other requirements that are specified by CSIR and UGC.
Candidates who qualify for the JRF will be eligible to receive a fellowship for a period of two years, which can be extended based on their performance. Candidates who do not qualify for JRF but score above the cut-off marks will be eligible for Lectureship.

| Education Qualification |
- Candidates must have an M.Sc. degree or an equivalent degree such as an Integrated BS-MS, BS-4 years, BE, B.Tech, or B. Pharma, or an MBBS degree with a minimum of 55% marks for General (UR)/General-EWS candidates and 50% marks for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third gender, and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates, without rounding off.
- Candidates holding a B.Sc. (Hons.) or equivalent degree, or those enrolled in an Integrated MS-PhD program, are also eligible to apply with at least 55% marks (without rounding off) for General (UR)/General-EWS candidates and 50% marks (without rounding off) for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third gender, and Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.
- Bachelor’s degrees are eligible to Apply Online only for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and not for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor.
- B.E./B.S./B.Tech./B.Pharma/MBBS are eligible to apply for fellowship only
